‘Haydn & the Magical Pharaoh’ | Piano Party Kit

Run a ‘Piano Party’ and get students excited about learning music! A ‘Piano Party’ is a great way to give your students broader music appreciation, gain some ‘peer performance’ practice, and help them build friendships with other ‘music kids’.

This bundle includes all the resources you need to run a successful, educational and fun ‘Party-style’ group class, filled with music appreciation, inspiration and opportunity.

This ‘party’ kit is an Integrated Teaching Bundle, with LOTS of inclusions:
  • All the Prep & Planning is done-for-you: Our planning kit gives you customizable ‘Party’ invitations; the complete teaching plan covering two hours of music group class; a ‘running order’ to guide you on the day; and lots of other ideas and helpful suggestions so you can easily run your own successful ‘Piano Party’… (a.k.a. music group class!) The planning kit is built in google files, so it is fully editable and easy to use.
  • A game-style singing activity: Using one of the main tunes from Haydn’s Surprise Symphony, this singing activity allows students to get involved, and ‘feel’ the melody and harmony. And the new, summer-themed words make this historical tune relevant and contemporary for them!
  • The ‘party’ planning kit includes a ‘click link’ to the ‘Haydn & the Magical Pharaoh’ musical story telling session, by Marshall Cavendish. Students will enjoy this imaginative story of two children entering a computer game, to save the pharaoh – all the while accompanied by music from the ‘Surprise Symphony’ by Joseph Haydn. A great introduction to Haydn’s music! And we have also included a ‘click link’ to a curated playlist of short, ‘music-positive’ and funny videos, to use at the beginning, while students settle in, and you wait for everyone to arrive.
  • The ‘Haydn Project’ activity kit with seven hands-on, ‘craft’ style learning activities. Each activity allows the students to learn about a different aspect of Haydn’s life & music. This Activity Kit is supplied in pdf format, ready to print & teach – it gives you the companion extension activity which follows on after the music story telling listening session.
  • After a Snack Break, there is time for ‘peer performance’ to help students become accustomed to playing in front of others. For even more fun, you can use our ‘Recital Shakedown’ Performance Game here, to make performance a bundle of fun!
  • Teaching in school? Use this teaching kit as a fun Music Unit Study, and spread these learning activities over several lessons!

So, what is a ‘Piano Party’?

The Piano Party idea is really just a sneaky ‘cover’ for a music group class. For studio teachers who mainly teach individual lessons, this is a cool way to get your students together, to cover more music appreciation, history & theory. It’s a great way to broaden their musical education…and help them make friends with other students who learn music too. And actually, it’s not just for piano – this idea is great for any music teaching group! Try running it as a ‘Violin Party’, a ‘Choir Party’, a ‘Music Party’, or even a ‘Junior Orchestra Party… Just create a title to suit your situation!

Why run a ‘Party-style’ group class?

Well, firstly, students love the idea of a music ‘party’ so much more than the idea of a music class! Secondly, a group class is a great way to offer an additional lesson in the term, which students can use as a replacement for a lesson they have missed. (A time saver for studio teachers, compared to trying to give everyone individual catch-up lessons!) And thirdly, it’s also a really useful way to broaden your students music appreciation, and touch on music topics that you might not otherwise have time for in their instrumental/singing lessons.

And when should I run a ‘piano party’ class?

A ‘piano party’ can be run any time you like – You could do it once a term, or once a month. Or maybe you just want to start with a one-off piano party! And it could be a fun holiday activity for students: a great way to let new students try out your studio, while also continuing the learning & music fun for your old students. A ‘piano party’ could be something that you include in your lesson fees, to deliver great value (without too much extra effort), or it could be a unique ‘class’ that you can charge extra for. And for classroom music teachers, these activities are easily adapted for some fun classroom music lessons!

And of course, putting a few ‘piano parties’ back-to-back, maybe on a few consecutive days, or on the same day each week for a few weeks, will give you a ready-done ‘Summer Music Camp’, that you can run during summer break!
